M55 Art is pleased to present “Letters From the Moon,” a group exhibition of works by Kathleen Granados, Peter J Hoffmeister and Teresa Jarzynski. While Granados organized and participated in a past group exhibition at M55, this will be Hoffmeister and Jarzynski’s first time exhibiting work at the gallery. In addition, this is the first time all three artists will be working together.
This exhibition seeks to contextualize each artists’ investigation of related concepts, from the subconscious and the nature of dreams, to identity. The juxtaposition of these three artists will generate new meanings as well as expand pre-existing ones.
Granados and Jarzynski both use traditional craft materials, such as yarn, fabric, and beads. Granados challenges the usage of such media through mixed media sculpture and installation, while Jarzynski creates large abstractions on canvas with paint, embellished with fabric, to explore the lines between fine art and craft. Hoffmeister combines aspects of figuration and abstraction via a mixed media exploration of the portraiture format, using his earlier abstract “Swingscapes” as a departure point.
