Capricious Space proudly presents Smoke Bath, a benefit exhibition in conjunction with an online gallery, to support The Fresh Air Fund. Curated and organized by Peter Sutherland, the gallery hosts the artwork of photographers Andrew Laumann and Nicholas Gottlund. A website dedicated to the cause, www.smokebath.com, features the work of numerous other photographers, ranging from emerging artists like Skye Parrott and Sam Falls, to the very established such as Collier Schorr and Richard Prince.

Smoke Bath is a collection of photographs and artwork loosely based on the theme of camping/nature/exploring. The Fresh Air Fund is an independent, not-for-profit agency that provides free summer vacations to New York City children from low-income communities (wikipedia). The goals of Smoke Bath are to showcase the work of artists who are inspired by nature and to raise money for freshair.org in the process.

Seems Books, an independent publisher of small-run art books based in New York (www.seemsbooks.com), has also published an accompanying catalog (also titled “Smoke Bath”), featuring still more images and artists inspired by the bucolic. A t-shirt specially designed by Patrick O’dell will be available as well. All proceeds from these projects will benefit The Fresh Air Fund. Special thanks for making all of this possible to Landon Metz (website design) and Natalie So (Producer and Co-curator).

Sutherland on the exhibition: “Andrew and Nicholas are friends and they live in Baltimore. Both have a heavy feel of adventure and exploration in their work. They seem to pick the best parts out of their travels to then create their own worlds. These worlds seem to be made up of abandoned buildings mixed with pristine wilderness areas. Nicholas came up with the name ‘Smoke Bath’ after a smoky trip they both took to South Carolina.”
