Katy Fischer’s ink and gouache drawings on paper and panel reflect a fascination with the non-locations and in-between places in the contemporary landscape. Informed by the history of drawing, Fischer works with pen and ink, rendering details over minimal backgrounds. The artist’s drawings incorporate subdued colors, decorative elements and simple motifs.

The work in Here Like Everywhere stems from a feeling of equanimity and a willingness to accept a little as a lot. The locale for her most recent work is the block around her home in Chicago. Fischer looks deeply into her immediate surroundings to capture the wilderness that resides unnoticed within the urban environment: grass growing in sidewalk cracks, single trees grounded in city parks and endless piles of fallen leaves waiting to be taken away.

Here Like Everywhere is Katy Fischer’s first New York solo exhibition. Katy Fischer (1973) received an MFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She has recently exhibited at venues such as; The Chicago Cultural Center, Chicago; Allston Skirt Gallery, Boston; Richard Dadd Gallery, St. Paul; and The Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art, Chicago. Concurrent to Here Like Everywhere, Fischer is exhibiting in the inaugural exhibition at the Figge Art Museum, Davenport, IA.
