Genevive Zacconi Dysphoria Solo Exhibition
December 10 – January 13th Opening Reception: Friday, Dec 10, 7-11pm
NEW YORK, NY (December 10th, 2010) — Last Rites Gallery presents Dysphoria, new works by Genevive Zacconi. Drawing upon life experiences, the inner workings of human relationships, and the parameters of societal constraints, Genevive Zacconi is a captivating storyteller of unwanted truths, harboring an unusual honesty that brings to light topics unspoken. Often personal in nature, her work resonates a strong feminine viewpoint, yet touches on emotions that remain universal. Adding an additional dramatic element to her art is the juxtaposition of her intense subject matter and gentle aesthetic. Making elegant what was once ugly, she couples abrasive imagery with a soft color palette and delicate, decided brush strokes; creating an intriguing mix of beauty and darkness.
Genevive’s paintings have been displayed at galleries across the planet, including Copro Nason, La Luz De Jesus, Thinkspace, Strychnin, Perihelion Fine Arts and more. She has been featured by media outlets such as MSNBC, NY Press, Juxtapoz, Hi Fructose, Coagula Arts Journal, and others. In addition to her work as a painter, Genevive has been involved in many facets of the art world throughout her life- she headed the first Philadelphia branch of “Dr. Sketchy’s Anti-Art School”, worked as painting assistant to Ron English, previously directed at both Trinity Gallery and Last Rites Gallery, and has guest curated at numerous venues.
