Twelve artists interpret the short story “Getting Closer,” by Pulitzer Prize winning author Steven Millhauser. In this story, a young boy is unable to enjoy a much-anticipated swimming excursion, held back by his own awareness that the day’s end keeps getting closer. The artists created work based on their own associations with the imagery and themes in the text, tackling subjects such as anticipation, ephemeral experience, and paralyzing anxiety. Paul D’Agostino, Eric Johnston, Carmen von K, Gili Levy, Amy Lincoln, Rebecca Litt, Jennifer Meanley, Joe Nanashe, Jamie Powell, James Reeder, Julie Torres, Holly Veselka. Curated by Rebecca Litt.
