Italian plumbers jumping from mushroom to mushroom to enter new, sprawling never-ending worlds: a totally normal scenario. Saturday morning cartoons, slap bracelets, beads, remote-controlled trucks, plastic game controllers, “magic” color scratch paper, slinkies, geometric coloring books, Lite-brites… The unbelievably simple, yet totally addictive entertainment of the 1990s kept us hypnotized hour after countless hour. As a result, The 1990s- its aesthetics, frivolity and playfulness- have deeply influenced the Millenial generation’s perception of the world.
The second art show of BushwickGallery.com ‘Mushroom Universe’ takes a tour through the spotty memories, bringing forward the perceptions, images, shapes and colors of this lavish decade. Mushroom Universe is a celebration of this subconscious but overt return to the cultural references, symbols, and colors of the 1990’s in the works of:
