Porter Contemporary is pleased to announce Desiring Uncertainty, a solo exhibition of works by Jee Hwang from February 23 through March 31, 2012 with an opening reception with the artist on February 23rd from 6:30 – 8:30 PM.
Jee Hwang’s works are inspired by her vision of the body as a container related to desire, and its relationship to the state of presence and absence. Jee’s work spans from large scale oil paintings to small intimate watercolors and works on paper. Jee likes to begin each new body of work around a single concept and this time is no different. She beautifully depicts various symbolic ‘containers’ of desire in her works such as an antique bath tub, a wooden crate, and an unidentified bag. Like her works in general, the symbols are used in various ways to explore her inner self and reflect back our own nature.
