Amy Hill paints using many layers of oil glazes and uses the various techniques of the Dutch Renaissance painters. To create relevant and fresh images she uses new and unexpected subject matter.
Hill has been inspired by early Japenese printmaking and the films of David Kronenberg, depicting images of monsters, aliens and overall deformities. Interested in portraying psychological states, Hill feels that monsters make great metaphors for human doubts and fears in a culture obsessed by the media and the “Extreme Makeover”. In an always technically advancing world her paintings address the value of spending long hours to create a single, one of a kind object.
