Kotak, with top officials of the People’s Pleasure Brigade (P.P.B.) (an army for sensual pleasure,) will conduct three performance activities. From 4-7pm, the troupe will carry out a local Recruitment Drive, circling Williamsburg, Brooklyn in a sound truck, encouraging members of the community to enlist in the P.P.B. The soldiers will then drive up to and take siege of the Naked Duck Gallery, conducting a Drill Ceremony exhibiting key P.P.B. training exercises.

Interested recruits can complete pledge forms at the recruitment booth and photographs of new soldiers will be hung beside the army barrack installation. The exhibit also includes videos and large-scale C-prints of performances from the PLEASURE WAR! series.

In addition to referencing western military exercises, PLEASURE WAR! draws on traditions of body art, feminist art, and performance art, creating a personal ritual that includes mythology of the ancient Sumerian goddess Inanna. Personifying both love and war, Inanna is the perfect icon against capitalist and imperialist abuses, against puritanical restrictions, and in favor of the sanctity of the body.

Marni Kotak is a visual artist who lives and works in New York City. For the past five years, Kotak has been developing her own distinct brand of performance, installation and video art. Kotak has exhibited her work in several galleries in the city, such as Exit Art, Holland Tunnel and Cave, and her work has been featured in various media such as the Performing Arts Journal, Artnet and ABC News Channel 2.
