For his second solo exhibition at Museum 52, Jacob Robichaux will present a group of new paintings, sculptures, collages, and found and altered props that further develop his investigation of abstraction as a tactile language for generating meaningful experience. He approaches production as a rigorous and fluid form of play, a series of gestures that disrupt hierarchy and offer temporary solutions to an open-ended set of formal and conceptual problems.
The exhibition will include groups of paintings made with quotidian materials including string, house paint, silk, bingo chips, straws, jute, dyed wool, and pins; collages made from scraps and discarded fragments of the paintings; and a group of found and altered objects that function as both discreet sculptures and props for spontaneous performances by the artist throughout the duration of the exhibition.
Robichaux’s work was recently featured in Prolongation, Chez Valentin, Paris, will be included in an upcoming exhibition at Artist Curated Projects in Los Angeles. In September he will present a performance at X Initiative as part of Fritz Haeg’s installation ‘Dome Colony X in the San Gabriels.’. He has a forthcoming multiple in the fifth and final edition of The North Drive Press.
