Pinch Pots and Pyramids is a group show of 6 artists working with simple geometric shapes. The pieces in this exhibition evoke the hand-made, displaying the artist’s direct involvement in making the work.

Some shapes are derived from functional objects like Ryan Reggiani’s stacked, cast cement vessels and Susana Rodriguez’s broken and reassembled ceramic cups. Others use shape to obscure other media: Liliane Lijn’s spinning text Poemcones; Halsey Rodman’s styrofoam and epoxy tubes; and Sam Moyer’s row of photography backed triangles. Molly Smith’s watercolor collages convey the idea of layered shapes as two-dimensional abstraction.

Each artist has created new work specifically for this exhibition.

This exhibition is the 2nd in the gallery’s fall series of 3 group shows based on broad ideas about art making. Sam Moyer, Ryan Reggiani, Halsey Rodman and Molly Smith are all New York based artists. Liliane Lijn lives and works in London, England and Susana Rodriguez lives and works in Guadalajara, Mexico.
