The Cheryl McGinnis Gallery is thrilled to present Susan Hamburger’s Moral Hazard. In this work, the artist continues to use both Victorian and French Colonial Period design motifs, specifically wallpaper panels and porcelain dinnerware, as templates to investigate contemporary politics.

Having found an abundance of greed, hypocrisy and conflict of interest reflected in the most recent economic upheavals and sex scandals, the current show which centers on the term Moral Hazard, represents Hamburgers’ own desire to identify and learn more about the individual politicians, corporate executives and pundits responsible for setting the political, economic and social mores in the United States.

The series around which the show is titled consists of eight panels, of acrylic painted paper collages, three 72 × 28 inches and five 72 × 14 inches, based on motifs from Reveillon painted wallpaper panels.

Throughout, the artist was interested in knowing more about each of these individuals so that her own response would be an informed critique, rather than a knee-jerk liberal reaction.

Susan Hamburger’s work has been most recently seen in “Dwell” at the Cheryl McGinnis Gallery, The Old Stone House & Brooklyn Historical Society, “Brooklyn Utopias?,” “X: 10th Anniversary,” Mixed Greens, “Made in America,” Peel Gallery, Houston, TX. This marks Susan Hamburger’s second solo exhibit with the Cheryl McGinnis Gallery.
