For her debut exhibition in New York, Pilar Ovalle, a native of Chile, uses wood as her source material, reflecting the ancient South American tradition of weaving, characteristic of the Mapuche, the indigenous inhabitants of Central and Southern Chile. Combining natural and raw materials, she produces symbolic fantasies and dreamlike works in the careful crafting of her resources.

Born in Santiago, Chile, in 1970, Ovalle began her studies in 1989 at the Instituto de Arte Contemporáneo de Santiago. A recipient of many disparate awards, she was invited by the Museu Oscar Niemayer of Curitiba (Brazil) in 2005 for a solo exhibition of 44 of her sculptures displayed in a 2,000 square meter space. The exhibition traveled to the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes of Santiago in 2006.

Her works can be seen in many prominent public and private collections including the Museo de Artes Visuals, Santiago; Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, Santiago;?Museo Oscar Niemayer, Curitiba, Brazil; Colección Banco de Crédito e Inversiones, Santiago, among others.

An exhibition catalogue is available.
