Hendershot Gallery announces its latest collaborative exhibition, Architecturally….

Featured artists include: Ella Ben-Aharon, Edo Ceder, Molly Dilworth, Merav Ezer, Interboro – Tobias Armborst + Daniel D’Oca + Georgeen Theodore, Bess Krietemeyer, Alois Kronschlaeger, Matthias Neumann, Graham Parker, Adi Shniderman, Eirini + Dimitra Tsachrelia in collaboration with Yoichiro Mizuno and Jason Varone.

This exhibition investigates art and its relationship to the built environment. Architecturally… concerns itself with the in-between, the collaborative and the transdisciplinary. The primacy of the disciplines of art and architecture will be temporarily suspended for a more inclusive dialog on space and the site-specific. The artists and projects shown represent a wide range of disciplines including architecture, photography, painting, sculpture, video and dance, transcending the walls of Hendershot Gallery to encompass the buildings entire sixth floor.

Upon entering the exhibition, Graham Parker’s piece, Abe North, may not immediately convey that you are, in fact, in the right place. You will see only an ATM, sitting in an otherwise empty and haphazardly erected room. In reality, this has been conceived in such a way as to define and obscure the exhibition as a whole – forestalling and coloring the viewer’s experience of the rest of the exhibition, even whilst apparently doing nothing other than what it promised as a functioning ATM.

Also on exhibit: Neighbors is a site-specific dance video installation by interdisciplinary group trialogue. The project explores notions of space: body space, virtual and mnemonic space, and physical space. trialogue will project videos recorded in the neighboring workspaces along Hendershot Gallery’s corridor in such a way as to create glimpses into the spaces beyond the corridor walls. trialogue is a collaboration between choreographers Ella Ben-Aharon and Edo Ceder, videographer and photographer Adi Shniderman, and architect Matthais Neumann.

Molly Dilworth’s site-specific rooftop painting explores virtual space, imaginary and unseen, as a tangible, penetrable space. With the advent of Google Earth’s accessible satellite imagery, formerly unseen and inconsequential landscape is now visible. Dilworth found the urban rooftop landscape unchanging, contained and secure, akin to a quarantine site. In reaction, Dilworth’s painting will be applied directly to the Hendershot Gallery building rooftop, visible to the surrounding buildings and Google Earth.

Bess Krietmeyer’s installation, Dynamic Façade, examines the relationship between the dynamic quality of daylight and the active response of a window through video projections simulating both sunlight and shadow on the floor. Two projections will simulate the change of light across a ten-hour period and the subsequent response of the dynamic system.

Architecturally… is a project by James Hendershot organized and conceived by Matthias Neumann and Alois Kronschlaeger presented by Hendershot Gallery.
