Two new works, both of which use light as a raw material, will be on view at Marian Spore from 8 December.
For his series ‘Notes for a History of Light,’ presented as a work in-progress, Joe Winter shines ordinary lamps on colored paper over long periods of time, creating delicate abstract compositions as the pigment gradually deteriorates. Graham Parker’s ‘Kid Weil’ consists of a neon sign hanging above a reflecting puddle. The text of the sign is appropriated from the subject line of a spam email consisting of a single word, ‘cacklebladder,’ which was a 19th-century slang term for a prop that grifters would use to fake their own deaths.

Marian Spore is an accumulative museum of contemporary art in Industry City, New York. Each month, at least one new work is added to a steadily growing exhibition in a 16,000 square foot space.
