PS122 Gallery is pleased to present recent color photographs by Jessica Hendrix and a site specific installation by Trevor Reese, opening on January 16 and remaining on view through February 7, 2010.

Jessica Hendrix will be exhibiting eight large scale color photographs of her hometown, Fredericksburg, Virginia. In these works she explores issues of identity, memory and her ambivalent attitude towards small town life. Through her photographs she comes to terms with the humorous customs and mundane aspects of this familiar place which she learns can be endlessly interesting and inspirational.

Jessica Hendrix was born in Havre de Grace, MD and was raised in Fredericksburg, VA. She graduated with honors from Pratt Institute in May 2009 with an MFA in Photography. She earned her BFA in Photography from The Art Institute of Philadelphia in 2006 and received Best of Quarter Award and two honorable mentions in Photographer’s Forum Best of Photography Annual 2006 and 2008.

She has been included in various group shows including Vox Populi, Fox Art Gallery at University of Pennsylvania, and Gallery 1125 in Philadelphia, PA, Altered Aesthetics in Minnesota, Attleboro Museum of Arts, MA and Lucky Gallery in Brooklyn, NY. She co-curated a group show along with Eva Fazzari titled “Some Place Like Home,” at Daniel Cooney Fine Art in spring of 2009. Currently, she is a freelance photographer and teaching assistant in and around New York and Philadelphia and will soon reside in San Diego, CA.

Trevor Reese works with modest materials and ephemeral objects to create his installations which explore ideas about potential and possibility. Using familiar, everyday objects he “nurtures coincidence and irrational logic to produce open-ended structures.”

Trevor Reese’s work has been included in solo and group shows in many cities, most recently in the Islip Art Museum’s Carriage House; the Athens Institute for Contemporary Art in Athens, Georgia; Mixed Greens, New York; Fleisher Ollman Gallery, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Believe Inn in Chicago, Illinois.

The Hallway Project is by Jodan Saia.
