Superfat addresses the performative and sculptural qualities of fat, oral fixation, hunger, body transformation and the human body as sculptural material. In addition, the exhibition investigates the state of weight-loss economics and the “American fat phenomenon,” as manifest by the bombardment of network shows highlighting severe cosmetic and psychological transformations – “makeovers” – that act to quantify the widespread obsession with drastically altering personal appearance through invasive surgical and psychological techniques.
