LMAKprojects is pleased to present Katie Holten solo-exhibit; The Golden Bough II. Holten continues her exploration of nature and its impact, introducing the ‘average’ color of the universe as determined by astronomers at the John Hopkins University in Baltimore, both the ‘correct’ and ‘incorrect’ version.
Through coloring the gallery walls in these universal tones, Holten sets the galleries walls up as a container and explores her ongoing fascination with quarantined landscapes. This particular setting forces a certain engagement with the viewer as they enter the gallery. The sculptures are placed throughout the space as well as a selection of drawings on the walls guiding the viewer throughout the space.
The exhibit comes at the heel of Holten’s ‘Tree Museum’ a project which was featured at the Bronx Museum and led its way up through the Grand Concourse to Wave Hill. The exhibit demonstrated Holten’s extraordinary ability to weave visual arts into the ordinary grain of live and include the community into the process.
The exhibit is a continuation of the exhibit in Ireland at the Hugh Lane Gallery curated by Michael Dempsey, which runs concurrent to this exhibition.
