A series of lush, bright, and deftly rendered watercolors of flora and fauna are at the heart of “My Garden Pets,” a major new installation by New York-based artist Emilie Clark, as the first artist-in-residence in the history of the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.
A featured presentation of the Garden’s 2010 Centennial Celebration, this multi-media exhibition includes Clark’s conceptual watercolors; an audio reading of correspondence between the 19th-century American botanist Mary Treat and Charles Darwin and other scientists; display cases with a variety of plant and insect specimens, archival materials, artist’s notations; and a sitting area with a Victorian terrarium and cozy arm chairs.
