Chashama is pleased to present Water’s Edge, an exhibition of twelve artists who each have their studio in the historic Brooklyn Army Terminal, where the waters of the Hudson River widen into the expanse of New York Harbor.
In the words of curator Kristin Reed, “Something happens when an artist works on the edge of a body of water. The light, the smells, the sounds, and the openness all coalesce in a sense of peace and centering . . . the works of each of these artists reflect this subtle quality.” This quality is mirrored in the sense of quiet intensity that each of these artists brings to their practice, evident in works that include an arc of media, from painting and drawing, to collage and photography, to assemblage and sculpture. And for the opening, BAT artist Hayley McCulloch will join collaborator Despina Sophia Stamos in a performance featuring sculptural headpieces in an exploration of the act of moving.
The show will feature works by:
Leola Bermanzohn, Jason Covert, Kate Fauvell, Abby Goodman, Clay Hapaz, Ryan Lemke, Theresa Marchetta, Hayley McCulloch, Kristin Reed, Kim Carr Valdez, Jeanne Marie Wasilik and Sun You
