In “Food: A History”, historian Felipe Fernandez-Armesto wrote “I eat therefore I am. People recognize the whole world through the dinner table, the food on the plate reveals the secret of human history. Food stories not only relate to culinary subjects but also connect to the culture.” Artists develop self consciousness, and expand their observation of the environment during art production. In the exhibition “Open Kitchen”, artists have chosen food and diet as the art subjects to create a common language between different cultures, as well as the personal link between individuals. “Open Kitchen” welcomes the viewer to share artists’ stories, and the opportunity through food to experience a multicultural view of the world. Sixteen artists from Asian, American, and Latin American backgrounds, present their experience of food and world cuisine.
The exhibition will include the drawing, painting, sculpture, installation, video, mix-media, and photography from Meredith Allen, SungHo Choi, Yi-Chang Chen, Brad Darcy, Colette Fu, Hyoungsun Ha, Rex Hausmann, Tamara Kostianovsky, Ho-Jang Liu, I-Hua Lee, Elaine Tin Nyo, Trong G.Nguyen, Morgan O’Hara, Michael Pribich, Bruce Richards and special performance from Kai-Yuan Tszen at 6:30pm.
“Open Kitchen” is curated by NuNu Hung.
