Helter Skelter is an examination of the cultural residue of the last decade and of contemporary art seen from a primarily West-Coast point of view. Helter Skelter places interest in emerging New York artists as well as established artists, including Raymond Pettibon, who participated in curator Paul Schimmel’s 1992 exhibition, Helter Skelter, at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles.
Helter Skelter poses the question, “If there is a sequence of aesthetic, moral and social priorities within our historical order, then have those priorities been displaced?” ...even so, “Are those priorities still not confined to the legacy of Modernism and its hierarchy?”
