The first U.S. exhibition of the German artists Rapedius/Rindfleisch (Martina Rapedius and Thomas Rindfleisch). Referencing minimal and conceptual art of the ‘70s with an acute sense of humor, the exhibition space itself is used as an integral part of the installation and serves as a springboard for the realization of their pieces.

For the exhibition Stars of Stripes, Rapedius/Rindfleisch will create a large star made of colorful ribbon extended from the various corners of the gallery’s walls. Amidst this three-dimensional web, black and white photographs of silos and farms are hung on the walls. The architectural elements of these farms have been turned into colorful phallic rocketships. The photographs recall the work of Bernd and Hilla Becher and point to a heritage of Rapedius/Rindfleisch’s German collaborative predecessors. The interspersed sculptural and wall pieces create a complementary and complicated reading of both elements in the exhibition.

Rapedius/Rindfleisch have exhibited extensively in Europe, including Paris, Munich, Zurich and Hamburg, where they live and work. Their next exhibition is in November at the SMAK Museum (Stedelijk Museum voor Actuele Kunst) in Belgium.
