Nan Swid & Donald Kaufman- Recent Work

Gallery 9E
508 West 26th Street, 9th Floor
Chelsea
May 6 - May 9, 2010
Reception: Thursday, May 6, 6 - 8 PM

From May 6 to May 9, 2010, Nan Swid of Swid-Powell Design and Donald Kaufman of Donald Kaufman Color New York, will mount a four-day exhibition of their current work at Gallery 9E, located at 508 West 26th Street, 9th floor, in Manhattan.

Swid’s work has a tactile quality to it using texture and layering materials such as cellophane, wood, wax, and gold-, silver-, and bronze-leaf. Some pieces have a festive, piñata-like allure while others have a more subtle, nuanced quality. And yet others resemble three-dimensional sculptures that are emerging from the wall.

Kaufman has been painting, in one form or another – from watercolors to houses-since 1960. His series of ‘gouache on paper’ paintings was begun in 2006, and are “inspired by architectural color samples.” Kaufman’s gouaches are relatively small—9’’ x 12” to 14’’ by 17”—and unframed.
