Daniel Cooney Fine Art is proud to announce the second solo exhibition of Brooklyn based artist Justin Francavilla titled Dead Flowers. The exhibition consists of multiple ink drawings and intaglio prints ranging in scale from 22×30” to 55×96”. The drawings and prints continue to explore Francavilla’s trademark aggressive style of working while maintaining a fine and delicate line.

In addition to Francavilla’s technique, aggression plays a large role in the work conceptually. Dead Flowers follows the 2008 exhibition titled I Said You FCKN Die, which explored male competitive force with figures in business suits battling each other with their fists and athletic maneuvers. For this exhibition Francavilla takes inspiration from his garden with dead flowers that take on figurative traits. The flowers seem to be at war with each other but maintain an odd sexual quality.

Francavilla graduated from Cooper Union in 2001. He has exhibited his work at Suffolk Community College, Deutsche Bank Art Gallery, Wonderland Art Space in Copenhagen in addition to his two solo shows here at the gallery. He has also had his work published in Harper’s Magazine, L Magazine and the New York Magazine Culture Vulture Blog.
