This June Causey Contemporary is pleased to announce Frozen and Filtered, featuring Sonjie Feliciano Solomon’s organza sculptures as well as paintings and wall pieces.

“Frozen and Filtered” will feature Ms. Feliciano Solomon’s ethereal organza sculptures, mirrored wall pieces, and enamel paintings. The organza constructions, which are the centerpiece of the exhibition, integrate mathematical principles and artistic insight. These delicate wonders, designed to collapse into small packages, create an atmosphere of calm and tranquility by capturing and diffusing light, and appear to defy gravity. All of her work is inspired by natural elements and fleeting events, such as sunlight breaking through clouds, fog rolling over hills and reflections on water, but fabricated using man-made materials and computer-aided design. Sonjie isolates and simulates natural phenomena and recreates the universal feeling of wonder on a very basic level.

Sonjie Feliciano Solomon was born in Manila, Philippines and now lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. After receiving a degree in industrial design with honors from the Rhode Island School of Design, she worked for a variety of furniture and product design companies. Now Sonjie devotes her time to developing work that straddles the line between art, craft and design. Prior to a career in the arts, she received a business degree from Georgetown University. She has traveled extensively throughout Asia and Europe and her work as a copywriter for traditional and interactive advertising agencies led to stints in New York, Hong Kong and Boston. Unsatisfied with staring at a computer all day, she craved the fulfillment of building things with her hands and returned to art school.??
