As increased speeds of communication result in shorter exchanges, language mutates into truncated variants. “You” becomes “U;” “see” becomes “c.” Brands contract, spawning WaMu and FedEx. Common signifiers morph into a space of reductive forms. Working in a variety of media –from paintings made of fabric and camera-less photography to perfume-soaked concrete sculpture, the artists featured in MIN. employ a poetics of abbreviation. With an awareness of quickly shifting histories and accelerated perceptions, they make strong demands of simple materials, and call attention to the gravity of brevity.
