The exhibit uncovers the various drawing practices of each artist, incorporating elements of project planning, narratives, and abstraction of images.

Ianthe Jackson’s work takes a closer look at what it means to come from somewhere. Through drawing, installation and animation she weaves together stories of place and experience all summing up what makes a person who they are. Each tale that is told in Jackson’s work ties a new piece to the picture.

Ianthe Jackson was born in Buffalo, NY in 1972. She received her BFA at the School of Visual Arts and her MFA at Tyler School of Art, Temple University. She currently lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.

Using her highly idiosyncratic view, Alexa Hoyer seeks to frame eccentric and humorous situations by creating relationships between seemingly disparate objects. Through photography, drawing and sculpture, she seeks to immerse the viewer in a visual drama, which is often perplexing and always transformative.

Born in Hamburg, Germany in 1976, Alexa Hoyer holds a BFA from Webster University in St. Louis, MO and an MFA in sculpture from Tyler School of Art, Temple University. She currently lives and works in Brooklyn, NY

Kirsten Ullrich’s process of making is an impulsive, mischievous combination of images that take on personal significance. Pieces often track a chain of short-range logic from element to element, but as wholes read as absurdities or impossibilities. Her work combines elements of humor with the discordant and inappropriate.

Kirsten was born in 1977 and holds a BFA from the University of Cincinnati and an MFA from Temple University’s Tyler School of Art. Ullrich recently completed a 7-month residency at the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, Mass., and will be returning for a second year residency in October. She currently lives in Brattleboro, Vt.
