AD Projects, an independent curatorial group based in Manhattan, is pleased to announce its third major show of emerging and mid-career artists. Founded in April 2009, AD Projects has staged two group exhibitions in borrowed spaces. The third in the series, entitled Piles, will launch on July 8th at 548 West 28th Street. Director Abby Merrick says “I am very excited include artists such as Becca Albee, Adam Bateman, and Janelle Iglesias in our series. Piles will present stimulating work that invites thought and discussion, and perpetuates the caliber of art that we have exhibited in previous AD Projects shows.”

AD Projects partners Kat Cohn, Abby Merrick and Jill Murphy curate and coordinate each exhibition outside of normal business hours; the name “AD Projects” is derived from the term “after dark.” The group brings together artists and clients who may be looking for unconventional perspectives in an innovative environment. Last year, the introductory show featured an interactive rooftop installation of bridges and ladders fabricated entirely of recycled materials. A highlight of last July’s exhibition in Chelsea was Shade Compositions, a video of orchestrated voices by Rashaad Newsome, recently recognized in both the Whitney Biennial and Greater New York at PS1. Director Kat Cohn adds, “We wholeheartedly support the artists involved by staging our migratory exhibitions, however ephemeral their location or length may be, and are grateful to be strengthened by the artistic community surrounding us.”

Piles is a group show focused on exploring individual artists’ attempts to portray the organization of stored memories. The show will include artists who re-purpose saved objects and demonstrate idiosyncrasies in their organization of intangibles, be they obsessive, methodical or even whimsical characteristics. Visitors will immerse themselves in analyzing the aesthetics of collective and individual memory.

Featured artists:

Becca Albee Ben Ahles Adam Bateman Janelle Iglesias Erin Ikeler Sam Martineau Andy Monk Justine Reyes Celeste Roberge Emilie Selden Revel Woodard

Piles will be located at 548 West 28th Street opening on July 8th from 8 – 11 PM, and runs through July 11th. For more information, please contact [email protected] Artist samples and bios can be found at www.adprojects.org.
