Ironic are the titles. Surreal and contorted are the hanging, dangling, and sprawling figurative forms of Eileen Weitzman. Following an appearance in the Summer 2004 Solstice show at Gallery Boreas, this is her first solo show at the gallery. She has created a wonderland, dark at times, often fun, and always intelligent: a playground and jungle for creatures from other planets.
How ominous the scene of this garden can be. Legs and arms grope in all angles and directions. In The Whole World Is Watching, eyeglasses are poised to catch every movement. Beware the cage in A Room Of One’s Own. Is there indeed anything sinister in the dancing pose of Women Are From Venus? Or is it a funny sidekick to Dancing Til She’s Blue In The Face?
Ms. Weitzman lives and works in Brooklyn.
