This exhibit does not have a theme and there are no shared criteria amongst the individuals represented here. Simply, this is a collection of contemporary artists showing in Chicago who I believe produce inventive and engaging works. In my view this is enough justification for putting together an exhibition. That is not to say that after the curatorial process that connections between these artists weren’t discovered; but rather, the initial motive was to bring together people whose careers I’ve been following for a number of years. If there was a selection criterion it was as follows: one, these artists make objects from malleable materials and that they invest in an exploratory critical approach to their art practice; two, with each viewing of their creative output I found myself wanting to see more and was intrigued about their future development, and finally, to present a sampling of the artistic energy occurring in Chicago.
I do not feel more needs to be said. Sometimes words seem inadequate when describing a visual art experience. The art here will speak for itself.
