The Exquisite Landscape: A Transcript of Sight, on view from September 10, 2010 through January 2, 2011 in the Rita K. Hillman Education Gallery of the School of the International Center of Photography (1114 Avenue of the Americas at 43rd Street), is a look at the social landscape relating to the emerging ICP-Bard community. Founded in 2003, the ICP-Bard Program in Advanced Photographic Studies offers a rigorous exploration of all aspects of photography through an integrated curriculum of professional and studio practice, critical study, and Resident Artist Projects. The exhibition celebrates a spirit of collaboration and explores circles of influence within a conversation between several diverse practices within the photographic medium including performance, sculpture, installation, and video. Curated by Marla Leigh Caplan, ICP-Bard class of 2007, the show features work by nearly 50 alumni, faculty, and visiting artists who have comprised the ICP-Bard Program during its formative years. An expansive consideration of site, the work on view engages in a dialogue about the reciprocal impact of the individual and the environment in situations that reveal the spirit of a place, its psychological, sexual, emotional, and intellectual charge.
