An exhibition of drawings by Los Angeles artist Nick Lowe. This will be the artist’s first solo exhibition in New York.
Lowe’s obsessive drawing and painting style is both adventurous and exhaustive, often covering almost every inch of the paper or canvas with detailed visual information. His subject matter is filled with allusions to both nature and music and often employs references to skulls, animals, mountains, flowers and stars. In this exhibition, Lowe has focused his iconography on the female figure, aquatic sea life and fantasmagoric interiors and landscapes. Through intense draftsmanship and a sophisticated balance of formal languages, Lowe manages to channel a stunning array of art historical references and styles into a single, symbolic gesture of clarity.
Nick Lowe received a BFA from the University of California in 2002. He has had two solo exhibition in Los Angeles at Black Dragon Society in 2002 and 2004 and one at General Store in Milwaukee in 2005. His work has been shown in group exhibitions at Gavin Brown’s Enterprise, New York, John Connelly Presents, New York , Andrea Rosen Gallery, New York; Jack Hanley Gallery, San Francisco; Vilma Gold, London; and Hiromi Yoshi, Tokyo. He was also included in International Paper in 2003, a seminal survey of drawings by emerging artists at the UCLA Hammer Museum, Los Angeles.
