Skylight Gallery is pleased to announce its first Fall exhibition of the 2010 season, Mary Blum and Grey Zeien. It includes recent work from both artists and opens to the public on September 18. An opening reception will be held on October 7 from 6-9pm. The artists will be present.
Mary Blum works with vibrant colors and reflective areas. Her pieces grab the viewer’s attention and demand movement while viewing. To fully appreciate these paintings one must admire them from a variety of distances, angles and lights. The surfaces of her work are graced by the luminous nature of metal. This creates a cool brilliance that is simultaneously toned down by the pooling color around the reflective areas, as a bed of rich autumn leaves will surround and warm a chilly pond. Bold and bright while remaining subtle, Blum’s work has been included in a number of shows since the 1980’s.
Grey Zeien also uses vibrant colors along with reflective metallic areas. His work is organic, fresh and expressive. Unified by rich cool colors, his pieces stand together as one. However, each alone makes up a part of what seems to be a solid and independent family, one member as strong as the next. Meticulously unscripted, every piece has its own ideas, its own plans and its own stories. At the same time deeply intimate and large and loud Zeien alludes to a playful and open feeling and allows the viewer to breathe deeply as if in a field of wildflowers on a sunny day.
The exhibition will run from September 18-October 24. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10am until 4pm.
