Tommy Becker’s work in video and sound offers a glimpse at alternative consciousness, whether childish, romantic or over-stimulated. In tape number one, the artist recites seven different statements, each in one single breath. The statements are inspired by the artist’s domestic surroundings—from the objects in his recording room to the landscape that is seen from a window nearby. The length of the statement uttered depends on the duration of his exhalation. His delivery is thus segmented into brief sound snapshots, a rushed poetic recitation.
