Nicholas Robinson Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of new paintings by Tod Wizon.

Consisting of Wizon’s work of the last three years, the paintings in the exhibition reveal a closer examination of the environments typically depicted in his works. Previous bodies of work have suggested a macrocosmic approach to landscape and/or atmosphere, whilst the present works evoke a more specific locale, or microcosmic approach to place.

These places are fictive – products of an abstracted approach to geography, topography, and of the psychological realms of the psychedelic and the sublime.

Typical of all Wizon’s works, the paintings seemingly possess an internal illumination, evoking a hermetic world of mysticism, asceticism and the tumult of irresistible natural forces. An oscillating and barely constrained energy appears much greater than that confined to the modest physical size of the canvases. The scale necessitates intimate engagement.

The works are simultaneously highly painterly and meticulous; a restrained bravura painstakingly built with layer upon layer of diaphanous glazing.

Wizon has been exhibiting for over 30 years and his works can be found in many of the World’s foremost private and institutional painting collections.
