255Canal is pleased to announce a first solo exhibition in the United States with Portuguese artist Rita Sá, Entangled, which features three distinct projects involving painting and video.
Rita Sá pursues a creative style that balances traditional with new media. Conceptually based in micro sociology, her work has involved the creation of animations, installations, as well as painting. Recently influenced by the changes on social interactions brought by social media, the exploration of the web 2.0 is key in Sá’s work.
Different social platforms have created a mesh of contacts and shared information where users entangle themselves without taking notice. The creation of multiple accounts for different services, along with different user names and different kinds of trails left online, reveal this type of behavior.
Entangled presents three distinct projects by Rita Sá that deal with various changes on social interactions within these new environments. Separate experiences are reflected through different works: Vincent Parollo, Emo & Tick and Instances of Commediation.
Most recently, Sa’s work has been shown at VideoArt Festival Miden, Kalamata; New Media Fest 2010, Cologne; SIGGRAPH Asia Art Gallery, Yokohama; and the West Side Gallery, New York.
