Giacobetti Paul Gallery is pleased to present “Other People’s Lives,” a NYC gallery debut solo show of artist Christy Powers, in which she investigates how social networking and online sharing affects memories. Through distorting and reconfiguring online photographs, her paintings recreate her own undocumented life.
Christy Powers is a Brooklyn based artist whose work investigates memory and the evolving role that photography plays in documenting our lives. She is exploring how the growing emphasis on the individual, stressed through social networking, is in truth blending our lives together into a more homogeneous experience. Powers has exhibited internationally, including at the Art Gallery of New South Wales (Sydney), the Queen Victoria Museum (Melbourne), the Bronx Museum and Whitebox Gallery (New York). Her work can be found online at christypowers.org.
