ART 101 inaugurates 2011 with an exhibit of new work by Xanda McCagg.

The show will open on Friday, January 14 and run through Sunday February 6. The opening reception will be on the 14th, from 6 to 9 pm.

The immediacy of McCagg’s paintings catapults the viewer right onto the canvas, to find his or her place in amongst the energetic lines and the luminous colors.

Asked about her work, McCagg writes: “Exploring those points of contact between a solitary individual and her/his/its environment takes me to the untouched mental and physical space that both separates us from and connects us to one another. The dichotomies we are affected by and that define us are the root and structure behind the work….Central to my work is the analogy of line to form; to light; to color; and to the spaces these describe.”

Xanda McCagg has shown extensively in New York, New England and Florida, among other venues. She has taught at The New School, she is the owner and director of Art Introductions~Art Tours and Events, and she is one of the founders of the High Line Open Studios.

ART 101 is located at 101 Grand Street, Brooklyn, NY. The gallery is open Friday through Sunday, from 1 to 6, or by appointment; 718-301-2242.

The gallery is wheelchair accessible.
