174 Franklin Street, 781 910-5589
Greenpoint
January 13 - January 21, 2011
Reception: Thursday, January 13, 6 - 10 PM

We are pleased to announce Temptation: A temporary group exhibition/salon in a pop-up gallery space in the Greenpoint section of Brooklyn, in the storefront of 174 Franklin Street between Java and Kent. Curated by Candace Goodrich. The opening will be held on Thursday, January 13th, 2011 from 6:00pm to 10:00pm. The exhibition will run until Friday, January 21st. The gallery will be open to the public everyday from 11am until 6pm, January 14th through January 21st. There will be extended hours on Friday, January 21st, for a closing party.

The show consists of new work by 23 emerging artists on the theme, Temptation. The selected artists have all worked at one time or another, as painting assistants, production leaders, and studio managers for the same major international artist. As assistants they expertly adapted their individual, natural skill sets and talents into a singular style, producing a technically particular expression of an idea, dictated by the artist whose image they were bringing into fruition. The purpose of this pop-up gallery is an act of deconstruction as a collective, reclaiming, temporarily, their unique styles and interpretations of a broad unifying theme. Succumbing to the temptation to express their individuality as artists in their own right, no longer squelching the impulse to possess their mark-making, in this forum they are free to express their identities. Creating a conversation between the works, a new language is generated from a vacuum of introspective analysis of the concept of Temptation. There has been limited contact between the artists in order to insure a purely unbiased elucidation upon the theme. The roster is a full spectrum of technique and materials and international perspectives, with the artists hailing from Japan, China, Korea, South America, and all over the United States.

The exhibiting artists include:
