LZ Project Space is pleased to present Suffolk Deluxe Electric Bicycle, I. A collaborative sculpture between artists Olek and Devan Harlan. Starting from wildly differing artistic disciplines the work converges with the two artists penchant for transforming the world around them through color and pattern.

Olek’s prolific series of street art bicycles wrapped in hand crocheted skins provides the template for a entirely new hybrid work. Rather than using fabric the two artists wrap the bicycle in light. Devan’s advanced practice utilizing real-time 3D and projection mapping to cover surfaces in luminous pattern is merged with the raw physicality of hand made camouflage covering.

Transcending both new media and fiber arts, the work stands at the precipice of a new viewing experience. While radiant color and motion play across the bicycle’s iconic form a hypnotic simultaneity takes over, leaving the viewer hovering at the threshold of the limited and the limitless.

Olek is a sculptor, spending thousands of hours with her hands in motion, creating and intertwining her art and work; crocheting. Born in Poland; she has shown in the US and internationally: including Christopher Henry, NYC; The Brooklyn Museum; Cuchifritos Gallery, NYC; Museu do Traje e do Têxtil, Brazil: White Box, NYC; 9th International Istanbul Biennale; Claire Oliver Fine Art, NYC. Selected awards and residencies include LMCC Workspace, NYC; AAI, NYC, Ruth Mellon Award.

Devan Harlan is a multidisciplinary artist whose hybrid practice combines the physical and the virtual with the use of sculpture, light and projection. As a self educated Artist, Designer and CG Director, Devan’s uniquely identifiable aesthetic language and reductionist approach place his work at the forefront of a new mode of media arts practice. Selected exhibitions and events include Scope NY Cinema Series, Optronica Festival, One Dot Zero, Whitebox Gallery, Christopher Henry Gallery, Scope Miami Art Fair, and the Vimeo Festival’s “VimeoWorld.”

Both artists are represented by Christopher Henry Gallery.
