“The Underbelly of Venus” A Female Psyche Study

February 28th – March 6th Opening reception: Monday, February 28th, 6pm to 9pm

Artist’s reception: Friday, March 4th, 6pm to 9pm

Trained as an illustrator at one of the country’s top arts colleges, Virginia Commonwealth University, Mike Wolf explores the darker side of human nature. Wolf’s main intent is to further explore the shielded side of himself as well as that of his subjects.

He believes that behind our facades is a deeper, darker story. His use of strong – sometimes overpowering – shadows invites us to explore the hidden feelings of his subjects. Wolf challenges us to address these unseen truths and asks the viewer to dwell on those feelings, beliefs, and thoughts that often lurk just below the surface.

This body of work concentrates on female subjects in particular. Each piece tries desperately to reach it’s subject behind an obvious facade. A facade of mystery, of dreams, of torment, of misunderstanding… of awakenings.
