Kathryn Markel Fine Arts is pleased to announce New Paintings, our first solo exhibition of paintings from Dan Gualdoni.
Costal Redux, Gualdoni’s most recent series comes from an internal landscape retrieved from the memory of experienced places. His works are familiar and vague but are never narrative or specific. His glowing surfaces, created with many layers of polymer glue and printer’s ink, remind one of old photography that gives a vague, atmospheric sense. The palette is monochromatic with a soft matt luster, the many layers of refract light, and the effect of soft shadows are wistful over stark, almost primordial landscapes. This body of work began in 1997, with the Mid-Western landscape as a reference, and quickly moved to the coast of northwest Ireland where much of his work is now influenced.
Dan Gualdoni received his MFA from Otis Art Institute in Los Angels, California. He exhibits extensively in the United States and has exhibited at the Contemporary Art Museum in St. Louis, and The Noyes Museum of Art in New Jersey. He lives and works in St. Louis.
