BravinLee programs is pleased to present new collages by Iva Gueorguieva. “Cut” opens on April 21st and will remain on view until May 27th, 2011. There will be an opening and artist reception the afternoon of April 21st from 4-6.
Iva Gueorguieva’s works on paper are composed of densely packed elements of collage, drawing and painting. Orchestral in their complexity, recognizable forms and images emerge from energetic, animated thickets of color, line and form. While the work sustains a sense of the tipping point between abstraction and representation, it also seems to suggest a third vector of percussion, rhythm and melody.
Iva Gueorguieva was born in Bulgaria and lives and works in Los Angeles. She received an MFA from the Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia. Recent solo exhibitions include Angles Gallery in Los Angeles; Lux Art Institute in Encinitas, CA; Pomona Museum of Art, Claremont, CA; Stichting Outline in Amsterdam; and 2×2 Projects in Amsterdam. Gueorguieva has been included in group exhibitions at the Contemporary Art Museum at The University of South Florida, Tampa; The Pasadena Museum of Art; Galerie LeLong, NY; and the 2003 Louisiana Biennial at The Contemporary Art Center in New Orleans.
Concurrent with “Cut” at BravinLee programs, Gueorguieva will be exhibiting paintings at Ameringer McEnery Yohe in New York.
