Landscape painting is a time-honored tradition that reflects cultural aspirations of artists on a universal plane that mirrors their heritage and intellect. Since Greek and Roman times to the Renaissance development of perspective and oil paint has enabled artists to envision and interpret the landscape in awe-inspiring visual techniques. The transformation of landscape painting evolved from Michelangelo’s fresco backgrounds to Velazquez and El Greco’s soft brush strokes of genius to Impressionism and Post Impressionism, by the diligent work of artists such as Manet, Sisley, Monet and Pissaro culminating in the wild display of color by Van Gogh. The twentieth century ensured the place of landscape painting in the works of Cezanne, the father of modern art, to Picasso’s cubist landscapes. Thus, leaving the twenty-first century landscape painters up to interpretation of modern contemporary mix media practices. The current exhibition, The Modern Landscape focuses on the work created in the beginning of a new century by an enchanting group of artists that strive to express their feeling for the landscape through painting, photography and sculpture that push the realms of traditional landscape painting into the future. Join us at Dacia Gallery and experience a stunning display of masterful artwork by today’s contemporary artists.
