Kellesimone Waits What’s Your Power Animal Exhibition: June 8 through July 6, 2011 Opening Reception: Wednesday, June 8th from 7-10pm
Kellesimone Waits invites the viewer to follow her down the rabbit hole into a place where things are strange and lovely. It is fanciful world inhabited by sweet creatures with an ulterior agenda. These delicately rendered and cared for works reference sources ranging from mythology, fairy tales, children’s books, contemporary fantasy film and literature, to fashion and even furry fandom.
Born in Los Angeles, California, Kellesimone Waits moved around for years with her family, even living in the Chelsea hotel for a bit, before finally settling in the Northern California Bay area. She currently lives and works in Marin County, but maintains close ties to the Los Angeles arts community, considering LA a second home. Her work has been shown nationally and internationally. This is her first solo show in New York City.
