Nancy Margolis Gallery is pleased to announce the inaugural showing of Swedish artist Eva Hild’s aluminum outdoor sculpture and New York artist Jackie Meier’s new angular patterned paintings. This summer group show will open June 9 and continue through July 31.

Hild, known for her white and dark ethereal flowing ceramic forms, has ventured to another material and process. Hild’s new sculpture is made of aluminum, may be installed outdoors, is similar in design to her elegant white and dark sculpture, however the process is quite different. Hild builds the initial model for the sculpture, and the skilled technicians at the foundry prepare the mold from the model. After the casting is completed it is coated with a sealer to protect the surface from erosion. Hild also has made very large scale public sculptures that are installed in Boras, Sweden where she lives and works, and in other locations in Sweden.

Hild received her MFA from the University of Gothenburg. She is the recipient of numerous grants and awards, namely the 2007 Visual Art Fund grant, 2005 Special Prize at the World Ceramic Biennale, Korea, and the 2003 Sten A. Olsson Fund for Science and Culture. Her work can be found in public and private collections including Museum of Arts and Design, New York, Museum of Modern Ceramic Art, Japan, Museum of Contemporary Ceramics, Shanghai, Mint Museum, North Carolina, National Museum of Art, Architecture and Design, Oslo, National Museum, Stockholm, and Boras Art Museum.

Meier’s new work consists of painted angular forms in glowing hues of color. Breaking away from her former paintings of soft sinuous line that swirl together Meier cuts up the canvas into star like shapes that protrude and poke out in an illusion of abstract three-dimensionality. The vibrant shades of firey orange and electric blue play along side other bright colors bringing energy to the already dynamic composition.

Meier received her BA at Boston College, Chestnut Hill, MA and her MFA at the Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, NY. Meier has exhibited throughout New York and was a finalist for the Alexander Rutsch Award, Pelham, NY.
