“If nothing is happening in your community library, it’s not a library.” – Institute of Museum and Library Services
Annie Shaw has invited artists Jen Kennedy & Liz Linden, Marie Lorenz, Michelle Rosenberg and Angie Waller to create a civic, non-commercial public space in the form of a library for the Dumbo neighborhood at DAC. The project invites contemplation on how the physical space of libraries, along with their role within communities, is changing with the migration of the content they have traditionally housed to digital form. The artists, along with architect Lori Brown and designer Nate Hill, will present a series of performative programs throughout the exhibition to encourage intimate communal exchanges, exploring the role of the library to its farthest extent.
