MULHERIN + POLLARD is pleased to present Krisjanis Kaktins-Gorsline, RECENT PAINTINGS AND DRAWINGS. Based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Kaktins-Gorsline’s practice includes a varied approach to media and disciplines.

The artist’s recent body of work consists of figurative oil paintings and drawings that use the format of classical portraiture as their point of departure. They present depictions of figures constructed from image fragments that oscillate between representation and abstraction. Kaktins-Gorsline says about his work, “With my work I hope to short circuit painting’s traditional appeal towards transcendence and create images that anticipate their own annihilation”.

Following his completion in 2006 of his BFA (Hons) at the University of Manitoba School of Art, Kaktins-Gorsline went on to graduate in 2008 from Columbia University’s MFA program in New York.

Since 2006, solo exhibitions of his work have been presented at Katharine Mulherin Contemporary Art Project in Toronto, Heather James Fine Art in Palm Springs, California and at the Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba in Brandon. During the same period, Galerie Simon Blais (Montreal), Deitch Studios, (Long Island City, NY), Galerie Schuster (Berlin), Rohrer Fine Arts (Laguna Beach, CA), Winnipeg Art Gallery and Morgan Lehman Gallery, New York have included his work in group exhibitions.

His work is included in numerous public and private collections.
