GODDESS multimedia exhibition by Mia Roman Hernandez

This body of multimedia work celebrates the Goddess or Divine Feminine within each person and understands this entity to be a source of beauty and strength. In her collection, Mia hopes to showcase timeless feminine beauty that is too often ignored or veiled beneath negative imagery. Inspired by the strength and diversity of women, these pieces traverse cultural and social boundaries by revealing the Goddess within every woman. This exhibition, which showcases a small selection from her larger collection of Goddess related works, will be an exploration of sacred paths as well as a journey of culture, spirit, and mythology.

About the artist:

Brooklyn born artist, Mia Roman Hernandez, first recognized the importance of a diverse and nurturing artistic community through the care and upbringing of her family. The driving force behind her work is very personal, taking its direction from her family, culture, and deep spirituality. However it deals with “life” at large, and addresses the universality of beauty and strength.

She is an internationally recognized, self-taught, visual and mixed media artist, curator, designer, and educator. Her visual works have been exhibited throughout the United States and are part of private collections in London, Mexico, Nevada, California, Florida, and Puerto Rico. In 2009 she published her first limited edition poetry book, “A Path Paved in Words.“ She has performed her poetry in places such as the Nuyorican Poets Café in NYC, The Notice Lounge, World Culture Open, and at several visual arts galleries and lounges throughout the US. Her paintings reflect spirituality, culture, humanism, reality and speak of advocacy for women and current events, while her jewelry designs embody the beauty of nature and the divine Goddess within.

She currently teaches Mixed Media Art at The Children’s Art Carnival in NYC to youth. She is the founder of Art by Mia as well as Chamaca Arts, a creative forum for Women. She has curated several shows in and out of the New York area including but not limited to “Visions of Puerto Rico,” “Latinas En Foco,” “Women’s Journey,” “United for A Cure,” and most recently, “Afro Latino American Crossroads.” Mia also took part in the curation of “FEMICIDE, FAREWELL SILENCE,” a global collaboration of over 200 women sharing their voices through pen and paper.
